Eco campervan specialists CampervanCo welcomes Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport
Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson MSP visited Denny-based eco transport pioneer following recent world-first zero emissions van launch
9th March 2023, Denny, Scotland: CampervanCo, the Denny-based eco-campervan specialists, were excited to welcome the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, Michael Matheson MSP, who visited its factory earlier this week.
With overall responsibility for ensuring that Scotland meets its world leading climate targets, Mr Matheson is on a mission to embrace those pioneering Scottish businesses, like CampervanCo, that are at the forefront of tackling the climate emergency, supporting transport decarbonisation and promoting sustainable tourism.
During his visit, Mr Matheson was given a guided tour of the CampervanCo factory, meeting the team of experts who created some of the most innovative hybrid and electric eco campers on the market. These include the Proace Eco REVOLUTION – the world’s first commercially available modular all-electric EV campervan which has just launched. The team also demonstrated the pioneering technology which helped to create the first zero emissions modular campervan, while they also laid-out the company’s vision for the future for zero-carbon leisure, and how it can become a reality.
The climate change message has well and truly landed with existing campervan owners, with the majority ready to switch to all electric models by 2030, while 14% are ready to switch this year. As for the most important features of all electric campervans, 70.7% recognise the role and importance of zero-carbon emissions.
Last year, to meet the growing demand for hybrid and electric campers driven by the pandemic, CampervanCo relocated to a much-larger factory to enable the business to double its manufacturing output. The company is supported by Scottish Enterprise and working with the National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland to accelerate the pace of innovation.
Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport Michael Matheson MSP said:
“It’s encouraging to see the scale of innovation demonstrated by the CampervanCo. They are producing the world’s first fully electric modular campervans from their base in Denny and supporting more sustainable tourism right across the country.
“To help meet Scotland’s ambitious climate targets, the Scottish Government has committed to phasing out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030 – as part of our Mission Zero for transport.
“CampervanCo is a great example of a business which is capitalising on the economic opportunities offered by the transition to a zero emission transport system. It’s a real success story in how they are supporting the circular economy and creating green jobs in the process and I look forward to seeing their continued success and expansion into new markets.”
Gary Hayes, CEO & Founder of CampervanCo said:
“Since we launched CampervanCo back in 2016, we’ve benefited hugely from the massive increase in demand for hybrid and electric eco-campers which has come from eco conscious adventurers looking to minimise their carbon footprint.
“As a business, we are harnessing the very latest technological innovations to enable us to not only reduce carbon emissions in our vehicles, but in the case of the Proace Eco REVOLUTION – we’ve eliminated them completely.
“We’re extremely proud that our passion and innovation has reached the radar of the Scottish Government and I’m pleased we were able to show the Cabinet Secretary first hand how CampervanCo is helping to make zero-carbon leisure a reality.”
